Potassium iodide(KI): Most radiations will emit radioactive iodine and ususally the first thing in your body they will attack is your thoyriod. Thyorid in serves to proudce T-3 hormone to regulate metabolism, which is very important. Potassium iodide avoid this from happening by making your thyorid absorb all the stable iodine and make your thyorid full, so the thyorid won't aborb any radioactive iodine which is harmful to our body.  This medicine is the most effective when it is as taken as soon as possible after radiation exposure.

Prussian blue (Radiogardase): Prussian blue helps speed up elimination of radioactive particles. It does this by trapping radioactive thallium and cesium in your intesestines and prevent your body from reabsorbing the radioactive materials again. This drug also reduce the half life of the radioactive materials(from 110days to 30 days for cesium, 8days to 3 days for thallium.), making it less dangerous.

Diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA): Binds radioactive plutonium, americium, and curium and pass out through urine. It is the best to use this medcine after these radioactive material is absorbed by the body.

In order to save yourself when you recieve a large dosage of ionizing radiation from accident such as nuclear plant leakage or a atomic bomb eplosion, which is usually over >1 Gy/hour, which is the same as 1 Sivert/ hour.  There are different type of drugs that are effective, but each type of drug is only effective on the certianed type of elements that you absorbed.
