Blocking Radiation

Alpha Particles

Can be absorbed by a piece of paper,or loses its energy through air due to collision with hydrogen, oxygen and other molecules in the air. Alpha Particles can be easily blocked due to its large size and travels slower than particles in other decays.

Beta Particles

The beta particles released in beta decay are very small and fast, but it can stop by most solid objects. Unlike alpha particle, it can penetrate skin making it highly dangerous, due to its small size, allowing it to penetrate human skin easily.

 

Gamma Particles
Only several meters of concrete can block the gamma ray emitted. This is because photons released in Gamma decay is extremely small and travels in high frequency, making it very difficult so stop, unlike alpha particles and beta particle, which has mass. If exposed to your body, it will pass through every single bone and tissue of your body, causing serious damage.
