Nuclear Power Plants

There are currently 61 Operating Nuclear plants in the US.

Here is how they work:

1.They work by using Uranium 235 (radioactive) to cause nuclear fission, which is to cause a chain of Uranium atoms to split in order to produce heat.

2.The heat is then used to boil water to produce steam.

3. The steam produced by the boiling of water is transferred to a turbine.

4. The turbine which is connected to the generator spins, then the generator produce electricity.

5. The water used to produced steam is then cooled using a condenser.

6. The water is then transferred to the cooling towers for further cooling.

Radiation Therapy is used to treat cancer, the machine "uses high-energy radiation to shrink tumors and kill cancer cells (1). X-rays, gamma rays, and charged particles are types of radiation used for cancer treatment." (cancer.gov)

It is very similar to radiation causing cancer. The therapy uses radiation to damage the cancer cell's DNA, its goal is to damage the cancer cell until it stops dividing or die.

Side effects: Not only does the therapy damage cancer cells, it also has a side effect on healthy cells.
