What is Radiation?

"Radiation is energy that travels and spreads out as it goes."(NASA) Radiation is occur naturally around us, we are constantly receiving Radiation at any point of time. It can be anywhere from the soil around us to the light emitted by the sun which is required for many life forms.  It is in the form of charged particles and eletromagnetic waves. We can't smell, taste, hear, or feel particle radiation. Which is why it is called the silent killer.

 

Radiation is measured in the unit of microsieverts, or Siverts, average human receives about 1000 microsieverts per year. Exposure to high amount of radiation can cause cancer , the most common type of cancer caused by radiation is Melanoma, which is due to exposure of Ultraviolet rays from the Sun .
